Day 79 Kalgoorlie
We got up in the morning and drove to the Kalgoorlie Mine tour. We got in the bus at 8:30 and drove into the mine. We started off by driving around in the big area where they put decommissioned trucks to get spare parts from. The trucks were massive, and they had really big back tubs which could carry 240 tonnes. The tires were at least 3 times my height and there were so many everywhere because when they get worn out, they can’t be thrown away, so they just sit there forever. There was also a big truck getting washed and they used water 7 times saltier than ocean water. They got it from the ground because it kept coming out of the rock they were blasting. We drove over to the superpit mine and we could see lots of trucks taking rock in and out of it. A few honked their horns as they drove past and apparently, they were preparing to blow part of the mine up later today. We were pretty close to the edge, and we got a completely different view than the public viewing area. They are also planning to blow up the viewing area because they drilled under it recently and found a big gold deposit there. We got back in the tour bus after that and drove back to the t0wn, where we got in our car and drove to the van. We stayed there a while and then went out to go the Museum of the Goldfields. It was built around the first ever mining tower which is what they used to drill in the mine. We took a lift up to the top, and we could see all of the town from up there! We went back down and started looking around at a recreation of the houses around then. There was even a house designed to go on train tracks so you could pull it anywhere you wanted, like a train caravan. There was also a walkway into the world’s thinnest inn. It had barely enough room to fit a hallway with small and cramped rooms on one side of it. After the museum, we drove back to the mine to see if they had done the blasting yet, but they hadn’t so we drove back to the van and went to bed,
