Day 31 Darwin

We started out by going into the military museum. The museum started with the WW2 bombings of Darwin. There was a 20-minute video on it and it was pretty interesting. After that, you go outside, and you can see all the different vehicles they used. There were heaps of jeeps and trucks that they used to transport people with and there were even a few tanks in there! Further through, there is a massive cannon in the top of a bunker. Under the bunker, there is a lot of weapons and the uniforms that the Japanese used in the war. In the back of the bunker, there is a section based on the Vietnam War. On the other side of the property, there is a command centre that had all the weapons that were used in the war. After we looked at the military museum, we went back to the van, and we stayed there for a bit until we went to the dock and looked at the water. There was even a big mullet swimming around there! After that, we went to the WW2 oil tunnels. The oil tunnels were a secret complex full of jet fuel for aircraft if Darwin was attacked again. It was only revealed to the public in the early 2000’s. It was really tight walking through the tunnels so it would be pretty bad if you had claustrophobia. You could walk through these massive tunnels that were filled with jet fuel in the mid 1900’s and they could probably hold thousands of litres of fuel. Then we went back to the van until dinner. For dinner, we went to a seafood buffet kind of thing. It had a really good view of the ocean and the sunset where we sat, and it was so nice. I had so much seafood I felt sick and there was also a bunch of deserts like ice-cream and a chocolate fountain with marshmallows. After I ate everything, I felt so full, so we went back to the van to go to bed.
