Day 37 Litchfield
We started by driving to the Blyth Homestead. The fire yesterday was pretty close to it so we wanted to see what happened to it, but we had to drive down a creek. The first little bit was ok but when we got to a dry patch and the main river, we decided to turn back as the water got up to the doors on the car in front of us and we didn’t want muddy water coming in the car and destroying everything. After that, we went to look at a waterfall. The walk went over the creek we drove through, and it looked really nice. You could even see some tiny fish in there. A few minutes ahead, though, there was a big fire that was burning near the path. We weren’t sure if it jumped from the fire yesterday or if a fire bug started it, but we couldn’t go to the waterfall because it was heading in the direction of the path and the carpark. We stood there watching it for a few minutes and saw it jump up trees really fast and it shot up when it got to the grass. There was also a whistling kite sitting on some trees nearby trying to eat some mice or snakes that try to get out of the fire. After we went there, we went to Florence Falls again to properly swim in, as we only stayed there for a few minutes. When we got in, I went to the waterfall, and you could swim under it and there was a part in the middle of the waterfall that didn’t have water falling on you from above. We saw some of the big fish in the lake as well and it was pretty cool! We took another way back which went through a rainforest sort of scenery and then out to a woodland that had burnt down months before. We then got in the car and drove back. When we got to the van, we stayed there until dinner. After we had dinner, we went to bed.
