Day 43 Kununurra

Today we did a category 5 walk. The highest category we have seen so far was the category 4 at Kata Tjuta. The walk started at the beginning of the lookout walk from yesterday. The category 5 was actually very easy, and I think it should only have been a category 3. It was pretty flat until you had to walk up a flat rock on a very big lean and go up a ladder. Then there was a point that looked down the canyon and it looked pretty cool. Further on there was another lookout that looked across all of the rocky hills around Kununurra. After that, there was 2 almost vertical rock walls that you had to scramble up. These were probably the hardest part of the walk as it was a smooth surface with no foot holds and you had to get up them. It wasn’t that hard though. After a while, you walk at the bottom of the canyon that you see in the first lookout and then it loops around the carpark after a few stairs up a hill. The walk really wasn’t at category 5 level and the category 4 at Kata Tjuta was harder than this by a long way. After we did the walk, we got a cake because it was Nanna’s birthday! After we ate the cake and celebrated Nanna’s birthday, we got into the pool which was really good. After the pool, the others went to a spring, but I stayed back at the van. Apparently, there was heaps of cane toad tadpoles in there. It’s pretty interesting that we saw no alive cane toads in the Northern Territory but a week into Western Australia and we have seen heaps of them when they aren’t supposed to be here. After that, we ate at a restaurant for Nanna’s birthday and then we came back to the van until it was time to go to bed.
