Day 46 Fitzroy Crossing – Broome
In the morning, we walked down to the river to see the flood damage. The river had gone up about 50 meters and completely destroyed the mountain next to it. All the safari tents overlooking the river were just wooden supports with the bathroom destroyed next to it. Some of the tents didn’t even have the wooden frame or the front decking and it was just a concrete pad in the ground. After we left Fitzroy Crossing, we drove through a small road created to cross the river since the bridge was washed away. Nothing really happened on the drive, and we arrived in Broome after 4 hours. Currently we are staying in an unpowered site about 20 minutes out from Broome but tomorrow we will go into a new site which is right next to Broome. The first thing we did was look around some of the stores in Broome. After that, we looked at the ocean from a lookout and it had a lot of pearling ships in the water around Broome. The next thing we did was we drove down to Cable Beach. We drove the car onto the sand and drove down the beach and it was really good! There were heaps of people sitting in their cars watching the sunset over the water. After we went to the beach, we drove to a market happening near the other ocean in Broome. There were lots of stalls and I even got this really big clam shell with pearl lining the bottom of it. Some of the pearl was super expensive in the market. I saw a necklace with a lot of big round pearls priced at $2200. After we went to the market, we went to a seafood restaurant for dinner. Dad had lobster, Mum had barramundi and I had calamari. After we had dinner, we drove back to the van and opened all the windows because it was super-hot, and we had no air conditioning because of the power. After that, we stayed there until we went to bed.
