Day 51 Broome – Port Hedland

We got up early because we had to drive 6 hours to Port Hedland. We left at about 8 am and drove till about 12 when we stopped for fuel and lunch at Sandfire Roadhouse. After that, we drove all the way into Port Hedland. We arrived at about 3:30 and we set up the van and drove into the town. The first thing we looked at was the biggest train in the world! We saw it driving out of the train station full of iron ore. The train goes up to 7 kilometres long, except when we saw it, it didn’t have all its carriages on, so it was only about 3 kilometres long. I got a photo of it, but 2 thirds of it was hidden because it was going around a corner. Wouldn’t really matter if it wasn’t going around a corner though, because you wouldn’t be able to see the end anyway. The next thing we did was we drove to a lookout overlooking the water. Out in the Indian Ocean, you could see heaps of massive cargo ships in the distance. The next thing we went to be the docks. We saw 2 cargo ships docked and they looked so much bigger right next to you instead of looking at them in the water. We also saw the guide helicopter land right in front of us. The helicopter carries someone onto the big cargo ships and that person guides the ship through the narrow channel, so it doesn’t hit the bottom of the sea floor. After we looked at the docks, we went to a platform above the beach, and it looked pretty good! There were a few mangroves down there and I think the tide was going out because there was lots of water pools on the ground. Then, we went to the van and had dinner. After that, we stayed in the van until we went to bed.

A small part of the longest train in the world (Not even a quarter of it in the photo)

A really big cargo ship in the port (It was really dark so I did some brightening but it made look a bit weird)
