Day 52 Port Hedland – Tom Price
Today was another long drive with it being 5 hours. We began by driving out of Port Hedland and on the way, we saw another one of those really long trains. While we were driving, we saw heaps of massive road trains, some of them having 4 trailers. In Western Australia, the road trains can go much longer than the rest of Australia. In South Australia and the Northern Territory, they are limited to 3 trailers or 53.5 meters long. In Western Australia, there is no limit. The longest road train is over a kilometre long! After that, we stopped at the Auski roadhouse for lunch. When we got to Tom Price, we set up the van and took a look around the caravan park. It is right at the foot of a big mountain called Mount Nameless. I guess they really couldn’t think of a name for it. It is pretty tall and apparently there are some lookouts on it. There are also heaps of galah’s flying around the caravan park and one came right to our door. Tomorrow, we are going to Karajini to look at the iron mines and gorges that are there.
