Day 62 Denham – Kalbarri

It was only a 4-hour drive today, so we got up pretty late and left just before 10 am. When we were packing up, I saw an emu eating some of the bushes right next to our van. It looked pretty good, and you could see the blue on its neck really easily. On the way, we stopped for lunch at Billabong Roadhouse. There were lots of goats along the way and I think one died because it smelt pretty bad. We stopped at a beach that was twice as salty as the ocean because all the salt gets trapped in it from the land on one side and sea grass on the other. The extreme saltiness causes heaps of shells to be there, and the entire beach is made of shells, not sand. It crunches underneath you a lot and from a distance it looks like regular sand but when you get close to it you can see it is tens of millions of tiny shells on the shore. We got into Kalbarri and we saw the waves were really high in the bay and the crashing on the rocks sprayed them so far. We got into the caravan park and set up the van. The others went shopping because they were pretty low, but I stayed back in the van. There was a kangaroo on the road which looked pretty cool. It was really tall and was probably about half a head taller than me. He was just standing in the middle of the road not doing anything for a while until he hopped into the bushes when a car came. We had a more leftovers dinner and then we went to bed.
