Day 66 Jurien – Perth
In the morning, we packed up the van and then went to a cafe by the beach for breakfast. I had a bacon and egg muffin, and it was really yum! After we packed up, we drove to the docks and got in our wetsuits to go onto a sea lion swimming tour. We went onto the boat and then drove out to an island that was on the horizon. When we got there, we saw that all the sea lions were sitting on the beach sunbathing. We jumped into the water and realised that it was freezing cold. The water was about 17 degrees and outside it was only about 22 degrees with cold wind. The current was also super strong, and it was hard to swim against it. After a few minutes, I saw a big sea lion swim right next to me. It was probably taller than me and it was swimming so fast. After it swam away, I saw another one poke its head out of the water and look around. He then dived and swam past me. After a little bit, there were quite a lot of sea lions swimming around and they were really cool! There was a smaller male that was trying to sneak onto the beach, but the big alpha male kept chasing him back into the water. I got into the boat a little bit early because I got so cold my body started hurting. On the boat, you could see all the sea lions poking their heads out of the water for air. After the sea lion tour, we got into the car and drove into Perth. The drive was only 4 hours, so it wasn’t that early, and we arrived in Perth at 4 o’clock. We then set up the van and had dinner. We didn’t go into Perth today, and tomorrow we will be going to Rottnest Island.
