Day 67 Perth
We started by driving to the docks in Fremantle to go on a ferry going to Rottnest Island. It was a 30-minute sail over, and when we got there, we saw our first quokka! He was sitting in the bush under some trees eating the leaves and it was pretty cute. After we saw the quokka, I got a sausage roll from a bakery because I was starving and then we went on a bus trip around the island. The first place we stopped was Parkers Point and it had an amazing view of the ocean. You could see the coral reef around the island and people snorkelling through it. Apparently, there is a snorkelling trail you can follow around the island and it has signs underwater. The next place we went to was Salmon Bay. It looked pretty much the same as Parkers Point except there was a more accessible beach there and a few people were swimming. We then went to the lighthouse on the island which was really tall! You had to pay to go in it, though, so we didn’t climb it. We then went to a place on the other side of the island to the dock where there were heaps of fur seals playing in the water and they were doing rolls and everything! We went back to the town after the seals and ate lunch at the bakery. In the bakery seating section, there was a gate blocking it off with a sign saying no quokkas. When you went in, though, there were at least 10 quokkas eating the scraps off the floor. When I sat down, one of them came right up to me and looked at me. He tried to climb onto the seat next to me but could only just get his paws on it while on his tippy toes. There was another quokka there with a baby which was super cute. The mother was cleaning its baby and then they drank water from the drainage pipe together. We went on a walk around the island after lunch and went to the second lighthouse. Apparently the second lighthouse was only built after a ship crashed into the island in that section. There was a beach on the left of it with super bright blue water and all the corals under it. After the walk, we went back onto the ferry going to the mainland. Fremantle was very packed by then and it took us forever to get back to the van. On the way though, we saw a bmw i8 which is a really expensive supercar. We stayed at the van until dinner after that and then we went to bed.
