Day 76 Albany
Today we got up and drove off to Denmark, which we drove through to get to Albany. While we were driving there, we stopped halfway at Elephant Rock. The main walking track to Elephant Rock was closed so they could upgrade it. We could get to Elephant Rock through Green Pool, though. The track went down to the beach where we could see that it was very green. We went a small way along the beach and then met up with the Elephant Rock path because we had gone past the part that was being upgraded. We walked across a few rocks and then went along a gravel path over to Elephant Rock. We climbed up over a big rock next to Elephant Rock and it didn’t look like an elephant. I think it is called Elephant Rock because the rocks are super tall. We got a really good view of the ocean as well. Next to Elephant Rock, there were some stairs going down to a small hole in the middle of some big rocks. It went to a small cove where some water came through a gap in the rock. It looked really nice, and I think it is where you swim out from to get to the small beach that is encased by the rocks. We went back to the car after that and drove into Denmark. We got some ice-cream at a bee place, and they had a hive with glass around it so you could see in. There were thousands of bees in there and there was not a single empty gap with all the bees in the small place. I found the queen bee and it had a big blue dot on its back. After we had our ice-cream, we drove to the Treetop Walk. It was in a forest with lots of Red Tingle trees in it. Red Tingle trees are incredibly tall with big hollows right on the bottom of them. They are also can’t be found anywhere in the world but in this forest. They looked really nice, and the forest was quite a scenic place. We went onto the skywalk, and it was pretty crazy because there was nothing holding it up. It didn’t have pillars below it and it used a weird support mechanism with steel wires going along the bottom. I don’t really know how it works. The bridge also shook a lot when people stood on it, and they had a max load of 15 people per bridge and 10 people per platform. At the highest point, we could see over a lot of the trees. Some of the Red Tingle trees went above us because they can grow to 70 meters, but we still could see over a lot of the canopy. We went back to the car after the skywalk and had lunch. We went on the skywalk again and while we were up there, we saw a green parrot on a branch near us. When we got down, we did another walk that went around the bottom of the forest and there were lots of parts where you could go in the little hollows under the Red Tingle trees. After the forest, we drove to a toffee factory, and I got a salty liquorice one. Apparently salty liquorice is a very Dutch flavour which is funny because I am part Dutch. We went into a wetland’s thing in Denmark after that and there were lot gnarled tree roots going in and out of the water and it looked pretty peaceful. There were also lots of birds flying around and chirping. After that, we came back to the van and stayed there until we went to bed.
