Day 83 Esperance – Baxter Rest Area
We packed up the van in the morning and drove off towards the Nullarbor Plain. We are only stopping for 1 day in places for the rest of the trip so it will be pretty busy. On the way, we arrived at the 90-mile road which is the longest straight road in Australia. It was completely dead straight with some trees on either side, but the further we went, the less dense it got until it was just a few shrubs with the occasional tree. The place we arrived in was just a free camping area where you can set up your van anywhere in a designated area. There isn’t even a front office building, and it is just a road that goes quite far into the bush where you can set up your van on the side of it. I actually really liked it and we set up next to each other with some really tall spinifex grass next to us. It was super-hot in the day but as it got later, it began to cool down a lot and it was really nice to sit there with our chairs out. A big storm came in but it turned out to be a dry thunderstorm so we didn’t get wet but there were also a few lightning bolts that came down. We sat out there and had dinner and it was really good. The temperature was perfect, and you couldn’t see the road. The trees had a few birds in them, and a magpie even flew down right next to us. When it got later, though, a few bugs came out, so we had to come inside pretty quickly. This stop was actually one of my favourites which was super nice, and I am planning on watching the sunrise tomorrow morning out the window of my bunk.

The area around our site (It was pitch black when this was taken so the darkness filter made it a bit brighter but it is still a bit grainy)
